Andrew Anthony graduated in Law from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1988. He joined Tughans in 2004. Following qualification Andrew worked in England for six years, initially in the Commercial Litigation Department at Bevan Ashford and thereafter in the Professional Negligence Department of Le Brasseurs.
He returned to Northern Ireland in 1996 where he has continued to practice in the areas of professional negligence and healthcare litigation and professional disciplinary work. He is also qualified to practice in the Republic of Ireland.
Andrew has a substantial caseload in medical/dental malpractice. He represents doctors and dentists in negligence actions, at professional disciplinary hearings (GMC/GDC), at coroner's inquests, at public inquiries, in investigations by their employers and in criminal investigations (misuse of drugs, indecent assault, manslaughter, theft and attempting to pervert the course of justice).
Andrew also advises and represents doctors in relation to disciplinary investigations before the IMC.
He also has experience of advising in proceedings before NMC, HPC and GOC.
He regularly delivers lectures to interested professionals.
Andrew is described as “a key player in the field, and has wide experience of defending doctors and dentists against high-value claims” and has “an excellent knowledge of medical law” and deals with matters with "the utmost efficiency." (Chambers UK 2011).
