Local Bio Firm raises over £800k in funding - August 2009

Tughans, Northern Ireland’s largest commercial law firm, has recently advised Fusion Antibodies on its latest funding round.  This funding, in excess of £800,000, will enable Fusion Antibodies to continue its ground-breaking work in the development of antibodies for the treatment of cancer.

Fusion Antibodies is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery protection and development of therapeutic antibodies to novel targets in cancer. .

Commenting on the latest funding round, Simon Douglas, Chief Executive Officer of Fusion Antibodies, said, “We are very pleased to achieve this level of funding as it will now allow us to continue the exciting development of our antibody technology.  We believe that the results will be very significant in the future treatment of cancer and this funding will allow us to accelerate our research  towards this.”

Established in 2001 as a spin-out from Queen’s University Belfast, Fusion has won a host of awards for its leading-edge technology platform FET (Fusion Expression Technology).  This technology accelerates the discovery of targets from DNA sequence through to recombinant protein expression. Fusion generates cancer specific antibodies to these targets with capability, through its antibody engineering expertise, to modify their characteristics to increase efficacy.
