Sandra Crothers was educated at Queen's University, Belfast where she obtained an LLB (Hons) in 1984. After obtaining a Certificate of Professional Legal Studies in 1985 she joined Tughans. She became a Partner in 1991. Sandra initially worked in the firm's Property Department after qualification during which time she developed experience in a range of property matters to include commercial and company work. For the last 20 years she has developed considerable expertise in civil defence litigation for insurance clients, self-funded corporate clients and government departments. Her workload is based mainly in the High Court and comprises public, employers and product liability actions and road traffic claims. She is particularly well versed in disease cases to include asbestos claims and catastrophic personal injury claims. She is also instructed on a regular basis by insurers in suspected fraud cases. Sandra has conducted the leading case in Northern Ireland in relation to the assessment of costs in minor plaintiff actions and the leading action in costs on appeal which resulted in major savings for defendants generally within the jurisdiction. Sandra regularly gives seminars and conducts workshops for clients on all aspects of defence litigation and case management.
