Toby McMurray, who qualified as a lawyer in 2004 and joined the firm in 2005, is part of the Commercial Litigation team and was appointed Head of Insolvency in March 2009.

Toby’s Commercial Litigation experience is extensive. He has particular expertise in managing and resolving disputes arising from the running, sale and purchase of businesses including; shareholder disputes, breach of directors’ fiduciary duty claims, Section 994 Companies Act Petitions, share sale warranty claims and civil fraud claims.

He has also acted in partnership disputes (particularly in relation to professionals), intellectual property disputes, judicial review and professional negligence. Bringing and defending emergency injunction proceedings is also a regular part of Toby’s caseload.

As Head of Insolvency, Toby advises insolvency practitioners, financial institutions, businesses, directors and creditors on all issues relating to corporate and personal insolvency situations. He has been instructed by office holders in many contentious liquidations, administrations and bankruptcies and has advised directors in directors disqualification proceedings.

Toby works closely with Fearghal O’Loan who heads the Restructuring team in order to provide a seamless service and solution through insolvency, restructuring and recovery.

Chambers UK 2008 ranks Toby as a leader in his field in Northern Ireland and comments on his ‘approachability and attention to detail’.
