Patrick trained with Tughans, becoming a Partner in 2006 and Managing Partner in 2015.
In addition to his role as Managing Partner, Patrick assists clients with advice and strategic counsel in respect of a broad range of contentious and non-contentious matters.
Patrick has over twenty five years’ experience acting in contentious matters including acting for clients in complex disputes in regulated sectors, high value insurance claims, professional negligence, shareholder and partnership disputes, financial services litigation, and contractual and warranty claims. He is recognised as a market leader in Public and Administrative law and has assisted clients in a number of significant cases in the energy, housing, transport, technology, healthcare, water and waste sectors. He has experience advising clients in claims engaging issues of environmental and planning law and has acted in numerous applications for Judicial Review, many in regulated sectors or arising out of the unique funding, governance and political arrangements in Northern Ireland.
Patrick has particular expertise providing legal and strategic advice to corporate clients, public sector bodies and utilities on the procurement, structure and delivery of major infrastructure projects in Northern Ireland. He is recognised as a market leading procurement lawyer and has been involved in a significant number of the landmark cases in the jurisdiction in recent years on behalf of contracting authorities, utilities and unsuccessful tenderers.
Patrick was a member of the CBI Working Group appointed to consider the reform of public procurement in Northern Ireland, was a co-opted member of the Professional Ethics and Guidance committee of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and currently sits on the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce Competitiveness Committee.
He is a former Ireland hockey captain who amassed an impressive 151 caps, 92 of those as captain.
